Hey Bully! - The Art Is War Edition
It's been a long time coming.
I've watched you troll the internet attacking random people and then threaten them when they call you on your bullshit. You've launched attacks on me, my friends, and even business associates and I'm telling you that it stops today. I'm also going to tell you the truth.
Nobody likes a bully, and that includes you. The only reason why anybody associates with you is because they're afraid of the 37 year old queen of the mean girls.
They know that because you are lacking something in your life, you launch seemingly endless trains of filth and will even use sex to manipulate their friends. They've had a front row seat for the shitshow you've delivered to myself and other unfortunate folks. They know exactly what kind of person you are, what kind of example you present to the world. And while they may be scared of you, I'm not.
So go on and tell your scandalous tales about how a roofer collected Employment Insurance in the middle of a deep recession. Tell all of your petrified little minions how I'm overweight and harmful to your sheltered eyes. Spew all of the rage that you have in your fractured soul. Go ahead and call the FBI on me for whatever imaginary slight I've made against your lack of character. I know what is real and so does everyone else.
I could call your wealthy parents and tell them that you describe their sex life, your husband about how you use graphic images of yourself to interact with old men, or the school you work at how you typify the type of person they are trying to eradicate. I could do all of these things, but I'm not going to because I have no interest in your pitiful existence. You are only one of many artificial humans in a plastic world, and I am not afraid of you.
I can lose the fat, but you can't lose the ugly that lurks in your soul.
To my gentle readers: feel free to use the comment section to tell us your stories of overcoming bullies. If you have someone who is dumping their self-hatred on you and you've been afraid, maybe getting it out will help you and others deal with the social scavenger affecting many lives.

Life Is Beautiful
I live in a pretty awesome place that draws people from all over the globe. Featuring 800 year old trees and the highest waterfall in Canada (440 metre vertical drop, close to the height of the CN Tower) it's a breathtaking place to reside. With life-changing beauty within a 5 minute walk of your doorstep it's easy to see why I moved here.
With that in mind, I bring you one of Dave Naismith's compilations featuring just a few of the things I can witness daily.
Enjoy!

Speechless
Within the next day or so, 33 men will get to go home to their families. They have spent over 2 MONTHS trapped in a mine without their families. I just find it so amazing that these gents have managed to survive without losing faith in the Creator and each other.
These fellows range from a teenage young man who lives with his mother to grandfathers. Their families and the entire nation of Chile have watched and waited with the rest of us. And like their loved ones, these men have never stopped hoping. They could have let disagreements come between them and threaten their survival, but have united as a family of men young and old. Humans are incredible when they unite. If witnessing this doesn't make you cry, you are absolutely vacant.
Let this be a lesson to us all.
" So powerful is the light of unity that it can illuminate the whole Earth" - Baha'u'llah
Reality Chick
I've touched on the topic before, but this letter from a mother to paparazzi makes me want to revisit this menace.
People are a little gung-ho when it comes to celebrity in America with even people of fleeting fame followed from the hairdresser to their doctor's office. Some folks relish glimpses of their favourite star off the red carpet- in the wild as it were. Solely because of their (or their spouse's) occupation, every move is calculated, and it is often simply dismissed as the price of fame. But there's another, more sinister trend occurring of late- the merciless stalking of young children.
In LA even the greasiest gossips had rules when it came to photographing children. In the unwritten code, kids were only subjected to the lens in the company of their parents and never before or during school hours. It was a silent contract and while people periodically got pissed off it worked out reasonably well for photographers, the famous, and - most of all- their kids. But that isn't the deal in the Era of Now. In the Era of Now, everyone and anything have a price and that includes children and their mates.
People like Scuzzez make their brand of misery grow by insulting everyone regardless of age, but he gets more blame than he probably should here. All it takes is a quick glance at the checkout line to see that magazines are not only taking disturbingly personal photos of children, they are using them to pass judgment on parents if their kid doesn't dress such a way, is adopted, looks awkward, and the list goes on. I have even noticed speculation made about the future sexual orientation of three year olds. And that's just on the cover- some of us do not have the internal schadenfreude to look inside.
If you think that these kids deserve this solely because of who their parents are, you're in need of a reality check. Think about this for a second- if you were dropping your child off at school and saw a crowd of middle-aged men with cameras, you'd hop out of your truck with murder on your mind. The police would be called and every one of those perverted scumbags would be hauled off to the slammer. In our society grown men who like to ogle children are considered appalling stains on our species.
To stop the harassment of the children of celebrities, it will take community action. When Joe the electrician or Sandra the therapist drop off their kids and see these weasels, they should phone authorities. Tell the police exactly what they see- a bunch of men in the trees looking at innocents and taking pictures of them. If every parent called the cops on these freaks maybe there would be some kind of enforcement. I wonder how many of these fuckers lacks a work permit and/or has a criminal record. Call me old-fashioned here, but where I come from, people who stare at children are called sickos, and no paycheck can turn someone into one- either you are one or your not. It's cut and dry.
Look at Charles Leaf, the Fox reporter arrested for aggravated rape of a 4 year old. He was well known for hanging around on news jobs and taking pictures of kids while claiming it was freedom of the press. If you think that he's the only one, you are a complete fool.
If you take pictures of unaccompanied minors, you should go to jail. End of story.

WHY?
Sometimes I discover that I need an explanation, and this is one of those times. I need assistance in determining the purpose of this item.
Yes, individually packaged prunes. Hear me out.
I know that prunes are good for your digestive and cardiovascular system, but why the wasteful packaging? I am a fan of dried fruit and I know sure as Hell that nobody eats just one sweet, delicious anything. It just seems so excessive.
Plus, if you're out hiking you're going to leave little transparent things for the birds to choke on everywhere. The wrappers are thin enough that you know at least one is going to escape your grasp. And speaking of grasp, these are going to be frustrating for my arthritic hands to open, and most people who eat prunes are old. And if they're not old, they're cold or constipated. Neither situation lends itself to ripping through 14 pieces of plastic to get at a treat.
What's so difficult about tossing 6 or 7 little nommers in a tin and going?
If they come out with individually packaged craisins I'm shooting someone.

The Heterosexual Questionnaire
This questionnaire was invented in the early 70's to put people in the shoes of a gay person , but is also kind of fun in its own right . Check it out and you can post your replies. Also feel free to post this in your own blog, Myspace, crackbook, etc. as it is intentionally in the public domain.
1. What do you think caused your heterosexuality?
2. When and where did you decide you were a heterosexual?
3. Is it possible this is just a phase and you will out grow it?
4. Is it possible that your sexual orientation has stemmed from a neurotic fear of others of the same sex?
5. Do your parents know you are straight? Do your friends know- how did they react?
6. If you have never slept with a person of the same sex, is it just possible that all you need is a good gay lover?
7. Why do you insist on flaunting your heterosexuality... can’t you just be who you are and keep it quiet?
8. Why do heterosexuals place so much emphasis on sex?
9. Why do heterosexuals try to recruit others into this lifestyle?
10. A disproportionate majority of child molesters are heterosexual... Do you consider it safe to expose children to heterosexual teachers?
11. Just what do men and women do in bed together? How can they truly know how to please each other, being so anatomically different?
12. With all the societal support marriage receives, the divorce rate is spiraling. Why are there so few stable relationships among heterosexuals?
13. How can you become a whole person if you limit yourself to compulsive, exclusive heterosexuality?
14. Considering the menace of overpopulation how could the human race survive if everyone were heterosexual?
15. Could you trust a heterosexual therapist to be objective? Don't you feel that he or she might be inclined to influence you in the direction of his or her leanings?
16. There seem to be very few happy heterosexuals. Techniques have been developed that might enable you to change if you really want to.
17. Have you considered trying aversion therapy?

Get Your Geek On : Vegan Pets
I am always looking for topics of discussion that are interesting to readers and myself. It has become apparent on the Twitter that I am something of a geek, and I am constantly asked about various topics. I take it upon myself to answer many queries because I love the quest for new information and thoroughly enjoy sharing my knowledge, both personal and discovered. With this in mind, I've decided that I'll offer up long-form responses to a few questions per week that I discover on the Twit. It is my hope that you too will enjoy getting your geek on. Here we go!
"Can a cat or dog be vegan?"
This is indeed a multifaceted question that requires a lengthy response. One one hand you have folks who are likely to have disdain for vegetarians who suggest that it is some type of animal neglect to deprive them of meat; on the other hand you have vegetarians who may feel that the meat industry is wicked and unhealthful for their furry friends. The thing is that people sometimes politicize things, to insult those who are different from them with opinion. But what about facts?
To begin with, we'll start with dogs. Dogs are omnivorous scavengers. A feral dog will eat anything from garbage to rats. But what about veggies? You bet! Dogs do indeed enjoy all kinds of foods, including vegetables and grains as part of a varied diet. But they do have digestive systems that suggest they are omnivores that consume animal material- they have acidic stomachs and far shorter intestinal tracts than a similar-sized human being. They have higher protein needs than a human to be sure, but less than a cat.
On the health end, dogs with gastrointestinal problems will actually benefit from a meat-free diet. Studies have indicated that some animals do indeed thrive sans meat. The problem is that many, like the British sled-dog study do not run over the long term. There are numerous stories of eco-conscious pet owners who have had healthy, long-term animal companions on vegan diets. What is interesting is that many of these are animals fed owner-prepared food made specifically to meet nutritional needs of their dogs. There are brands of vegan dog food commercially available and supplements as well for those interested in an easier go at a diet that has worked in Europe for a long time.
The caveat here is that there are some studies that suggest that vegan dogs are more prone to heart conditions and ligament tears. A poorly planned vegan diet may lack the fats and proteins needed for a very active dog. Most of the vegan dog foods are not approved for sole nutrition of a pregnant or very young animal. I personally worry about the carbon footprint of commercial pet foods regardless of whether they contain animal products or not.
My own dog loves foods like rice and beans, but I do feed him meaty bones and various meats. His diet is varied in nature and he is an energetic fellow. I am vegetarian but my dog is not, although I suspect that he would tolerate a vegetarian diet well.
So what's the verdict? Well, it's up to you, but I'd suggest seeking out one of the many vegetarian websites and giving your pal as many whole foods as possible. A gradual switch may be needed and you may have to resolve yourself to the fact that in rare instances, a dog may not enjoy the diet. If your dog has soy or corn intolerances, address those, and don't forget to include some crunchy nuts and oils to ensure that his diet is not too low in fat. That said, make the change only if you truly want to and not because you're afraid that the other ladies at the eco-club will give you grief. If you are truly convinced that a meatless food plan will be better for the environment and your conscience, you are free to do so.
But what about cats? Cats are predatory carnivores- they are built for speed and agility. Complete with claws, fangs, and incredible perceptive abilities, cats are designed to hunt and kill. In the wild, cats consume other animals with some grasses to aid digestion in a system that is acidic and short. Their digestion system is that of a top-chain carnivore and will quickly turn animal-based foods into energy.
But do some cats like veggies? Yes, indeed. I had a cat who was the smallest of a litter that was fed table scraps. Stuck with the peas, he actually developed a dislike for meat later on. But alas, Kizzy was not a complete vegan - about once a week he would hunt for prey. He would much on a mouse, bird, or baby groundhog from time to time. Now this is what I believe that many cats fed vegan diets will wind up doing.
Vegan pet foods must be supplemented with various nutrients for your buddy to survive. If a cat's diet lacks sufficient protein, arachidonic acid and taurine, he will go blind or suffer kidney problems. Eventually your fuzzy friend will die of heart failure. There is no proof whether or not a cat absorbs all of the nutrients in commercially made fortified dry foods, whether plant or animal-derived. Even PETA suggests very slowly transitioning your cat, if at all.
My cat now actually loves tofurky, but I cannot conceive of feeding him solely soybeans and vitamin drops. My spoiled furball enjoys raw meat from a local source and will turn his nose up at rice or corn. He and his brother are also avid hunters, which doesn't surprise since their mum was feral. I personally would never attempt to switch either cat to a solely plant-derived diet. Again, I worry about the ecological impact of commercially-made vegan foods versus my local cat chow.
So should I stop giving my cat his little fishies? Unless you are a vet or have access to one who can specifically formulate a diet devoid of animal ingredients, I would not suggest feeding a cat a vegan diet. You can reduce your carbon footprint by buying locally-made foods from farmers that care. New companies are popping up all over communities and you can score chicken carcasses from butcher shops. Also, if your cat kills a mouse in the basement, don't get too stressed out about it and never scold your cat. He may be small and kind of pudgy, but he's the king of his personal jungle. If you don't want your house to resemble Animal Planet, choose another pet.
So to my reader, I hope I answered your query. I certainly enjoyed writing this with my dog chewing a bone beside my desk. If there's ever a mini-mystery that you need decoded, don't be afraid to ask.
