¿Usted Quiere Algunas Chihuahuas?
A local (to me) animal shelter was somewhat surprised last week when a lady called and asked if she could surrender 10 reasonably healthy chihuahuas to authorities for adoption.
Even though it is technically illegal to own more than four dogs, the folks at the SPCA figured that since the owner was surrendering the canines, they'd give her a break as long as she showed up. And she did indeed show up in her Mustang with several dogs. Actually, she showed up with 33 of them the first day, and 9 the second. One of the dogs was in labour and gave birth to a healthy single puppy, bringing the total number of tan microdogs to 43.
As it turns out, the woman was given 12 dogs after their owner passed away, and since all but 2 were unaltered they kept reproducing until she was seriously overwhelmed. Several dogs need medical treatment and now the Victoria SPCA is stuck with a rather monstrous veterinary bill. And this is where some of you might be able to help.
10 of the dogs have been adopted, but there are still at least thirty ready for forever homes. They are reported to be friendly, gregarious little ones who will be welcome in almost anyone's household.
To open your home to a dog or wallet to help cover the vet costs call (250) 388 - 7722 or visit the BC SPCA here .

Attn. Bloggers
Most of you folks find me on here, but I have also recently begun working with a site that can help bloggers and advertisers find opportunities to find each other.
Even for those who just blog for fun, BlogPRWire is a way to connect you with other bloggers who may share the same interests as well as ways to improve your internet experience
Now I know that a number of you do blog, and you should certainly check out today's post and come back again for more.
Your work could have a political, educational, or emotional focus. You could write about how to buy stocks or how to remove stains from cloth diapers, but whatever it is that causes your digits to move is something that is important to you. Most importantly, what you publish belongs to you.

Blog Tips- Own Your Content
Whether you blog for pleasure or for profit, you invest your time, effort, and metal acumen developing content.
One of the most serious irritations to bloggers today is the flood of people who want something for nothing. Folks who lack creativity troll the interwebs hunting for appealing content to fill their websites with readers and keep their advertisers happy. Since some individuals have neither the writing nor research skills to continually come up with quality material, they steal the intellectual property of others.
Most of us know someone who has been plagiarized. I have found my articles posted on websites around the world including news blogs that garner millions of daily hits. But I have discovered ways to defend myself and I’ll pass a few tips on to you so that you will know how to establish ownership of your creative material and thusly prevent it from theft.

What's In A Name?
Your name is one of the few things that you own from the second you are born until the day you die. It defines you as a member of a family unit and your tribal history may even be found in it. Names have been controlled by governments and your name may say whether you have come from a wealthy or working-class family depending on what it is. But names may not be forever.
People change their names for a variety of reasons, be it marriage, immigration, or a desire to be less connected to the person whose name was inherited. And whatever the rationale, most of these instances make sense to me. But there are some name changes that are so ridiculous that they should be regulated to some degree.
There are folks who change their identities for reasons of politics or to connect to a celebrity. Steve Kreuscher was given permission today to change his name to In God We Trust because he believes that his new name will foster some sort of Christian unity. At work, people address him as In God. The flaky 59-year-old also plans to change his name several more times in order to reflect his allegiance to his version of the Creator. He plans to use handles such as What Would Jesus Do and No Cross No Crown to confuse the crap out of people. Now in as much as I believe in personal freedom, I think that this is ridiculous and a waste of court time.
Recently a woman changed her name to Cutout Dissection Dot Com and a British dude changed his name to Happy Adjustable Spanners. I know of a guy who changed his name to Kurt Cobain and subsequently starved himself to death and went to school with a dude named Brick Wahl. Some names are given and some are taken voluntarily.
There have been instances of children demanding legal changes from bizarre titles given by their parents and there really does need to be some sort of way to protect kids from their parents' stupidity. In addition, if I were a judge hearing a case of a dude who wanted to change his nomer to Camo U Flage (yes, someone did this) , I'd be inclined to deny the application purely based on how ridiculous it is. It seems to me that there do need to be limits placed on what one can change their name to or at least the number of times you can alter your identity because it is getting so out of hand.
Let it come as a notice that if you are my friend and intend on calling yourself Stormhammer Deathclaw Firebrand or None Of The Above I'm going to assume you have lost your nut.

Ummmm...WTF?
I look up a lot of different information, some online and some more conventionally. Occasionally, when I seek something via a search engine, I do not get the result I desire, but I keep plugging on until I hopefully find Waldo.
Because it is generally free to use search engines, they sell advertising and it is usually involves trying to sell you something related to the content of your search. However, sometimes something truly weird appears, and this morning was one of those times.
I was seeking an article on Y chromosome haplotypes because of a strange Twitter conversation, so I turned my browser over to ask.com . My actual search term was "Y chromosomes of Ethiopian Jews" and I did indeed find the Natural Science Academy article I was hunting for. But this was inexplicably in the advertising section of the page.
Now I know that the ads sort of try to recycle your search into a consumer product, but I really cannot explain this one. Anybody care to attempt a guess here?

Dumb Sh*t Of The Day
People who shouldn't be on roofs at all frequently use them as runways for all sorts of mayhem. When I was a kid I used to toboggan off of my neighbour's barn and it was pretty fun and probably now illegal. However, if you are skittish, you may want to avoid your roof. Bad things happen when amateurs try to skate on shingles.

Artistic Moment of the Geek
Occasionally someone sends me something that is absolutely mesmerizing, and today that occurred.
One of my readers ( @AlaAmber) noticed my love of art and also my fascination with eyes. I love eyes. I read about them, go to exhibits that feature images of them, and even paint them. And my latest eyesibit is courtesy of Armenian Suren Manelveyan and his unreal photography skills.
I am so fascinated with Suren's work that I contacted the man to find out about him and his very neat work.
Here's a sample of the good stuff with more after the jump:

Middle Of The Night Quickie
Wanna-be rappers and other cats carve shit into their haircuts, but this is BEYOND.
Welcome to China where barbers are better than you. They also charge about 3 bucks for something that is almost worth the price of a plane ticket.
Alas, the Chinese are a political people and use their domes to convey messages.
This particular one says "Celebrate The Tenth Anniversary of Hong Kong's Return".
Even if dude's a Commie, this chop is incredible.
