This IS Terrorism

Congresswoman Gabby Giffords was shot in the head today at point-blank range. She had been threatened over her stances on inclusive health care and her opposition to racial profiling. Among the dead are a federal judge and congressional aide. Until a scarce few moments ago,Tea Party darling Sarah Palin featured Ms. Giffords on a map on her website that included crosshairs targeting those she has her sights set on eliminating.

While Mrs. Palin is pulling the graphic from her website as well as the inflammatory language, it's important to consider the climate that is evident today. It is a time when Arizonans can carry and conceal handguns without so much as a permit and people are dying because their health care is being revoked. It's also a time when even prospective politicians are inspiring people to kill if they don't get their way at the ballot box.

Make no mistake, people- this is terrorism. If the people spouting these views were Muslims or Sikhs, they would be arrested STAT. If you continue to pepper folks with the idea that democratically-elected officials are the enemy because of the policies they were democratically elected for, you are preaching the idea that freedom doesn't truly matter. You are sinking to the level of those awful suicide attackers in dictating that your opinion is the only one that matters.

The Tea Party has become collective of gun nuts who do not believe in democracy, ones that willfully promote treason and call it patriotism. Angry white men who hate you because of who you vote for and me because of who I don't pray to. The kind that kill doctors and judges and immigrants. It's high time to get rid of these traitors, to include threats like the ones made on Sarah Palin and Sharron Angle's websites in the definition of incitement of terrorism.

In America and around the western world, terrorists are not always the ones who can read Arabic; they don't always shout passages from the Qu'ran; they're not always brown. Sometimes they speak your language, pray at your church, and have names like John or Randy. But these people are terrorists just the same. When their words manifest violence, they have become weapons.

"Men should utter nothing for which they would not willingly be responsible through time and eternity." --Abraham Lincoln
