The Media Is The Message
Helen Thomas was brought down by her own ridiculous words caught by Rabbi David Nesenoff with a flipcam, and while she said some stupid things, it is important to note that Mr. Gotcha isn't exactly Mr. Nice-and-Sensitive either.
The dude in the fedora is the Rabbi doing a very unfunny skit as a "Mexican" weatherman in February of this year. it is replete with ridiculous stereotypes and jokes about being detained by ICE. Rabbi David's accent isn't even remotely correct, but more like a comedic version of a French-Canadian one at best, and he can't stick with any one manner of speech and seems confused as to how to come up with more Mexican "sounding" words throughout. It's not humourous and more than a tad racist.
If you are going to plug your website after goading someone whose experience dates back to Eisenhower into saying something ridiculous, then your reputation regarding race should be squeaky clean, and by that I don't mean making jokes about mexican dishwashers. The Helen Thomas video drew a million hits to RabbiLive.com and after the money shot went viral, Rabbi David quietly pulled this from his website. But thanks to the magic of the interwebs, it is around for you to be annoyed by.
When you hop on your high horse and broadcast to people about things like peace and equality, your stupidity becomes fair game. This isn't some goofy skit from college, but was recorded mere months before David Nesenoff decided to hawk someone else's mindgaffe to the masses.
What Helen Thomas said was absolutely wrong, but it doesn't erase the fact that David Nesenoff only followed her to get his chance at fame in a world where it is instant. He's been interviewed and cited by news sources both left and right without anyone bothering to look into the kind of guy he is. Us who lean right of Ms. Thomas do not need another idiot poster boy, and Rabbi David has all the hallmarks of being this year's Joe The Plumber.
Whether or not we agree with the leftist stances of Helen Thomas is irrelevant. Her lengthy career was ruined because she said the wrong thing in the wrong context to a man who simply wanted his 15 minutes of fame.
